- Eston and Normanby -
After the success of my 2020 'Reflections of Eston and Normanby' Calendar, I had such wonderful feedback that I am now working towards a forthcoming calendar using oil paints. These are the first two paintings towards that endeavour.

- Reflections of Eston and Normanby -
These twelve images were painted as a reflection of my relationship with history and heritage found in both villages. I was born in Normanby and now live in Eston, but have spent my life between the two. My family history in these two locations reaches back around three hundred years and I always feel at home when I return.
These paintings have been printed together for the first time as a calendar for 2020.

617 Squadron - 'The Dambusters' - played a vital role during World War Two with their attacks on the dams across the Eder, Mohne and Sorpe rivers.
The aim of this daring raid was to breach the dam walls, thereby thwarting the Germans' use of hydro-electricity, which in turn powered factories producing weapons for the German war machine. The rest, as they say, is history. 'Mission Accomplished' is my second painting to honour the memory of the Royal Air Force in its Centenary year. Growing up, my father always extolled the virtues of the Spitfire, and like him, I too came to love the beautiful sweep of its wings
and the purr of its Merlin engine. Air displays, the Battle of Britain flypast, and more recently flights across the country in memory of the Second World War and pilots lost, have all brought the unmistakable silhouette and sound of the Spitfire to a new generation of admirers. I first painted this legendary aircraft in 'Dockland Raid' (1992). The angular horizon in 'Dockland raid' created a dynamic which I chose to repeat in 'Spirit of the Few', my second oil painting, which I hope captures the elegance and beauty of the prince of the skies. Until recently, 'Dockland Raid' has not been available as a print. Painted for my father, this piece has been kept within the family until being displayed in a recent exhibition. I have since produced prints of this much-requested piece.

This rooftop view from the south eastern side of Darlington Memorial Hospital captured me the moment I first witnessed it.
The open expanse of sky, vivid autumn colours and wide vista of rooftops stretching back, row upon row to the distant hills, all work together to create a captivating view in one of my favourite paintings.

The View Across The Rooftops
Oil on Dalerboard 50 cm x 40 cm Original Snot for sale - Prints available |
Until recently I have not painted in oils, but purely by chance found myself in possession of a wooden box containing unused paints and a small bottle of linseed oil.
With the advice of other artists and friends I decided to stretch myself with a new medium. 'The View Across The Rooftops' is the result, and have to say I am now a convert. |
